Vettriano inspired story features in Steven Meisel’s greatest hits

In July 2013, the 25th Anniversary issue of Vogue Italia included a highlight of the Vettriano inspired fashion story, ‘Pulp: His Kind of Woman’, in their ‘Steven Meisel: Greatest Hits, Volume 1’ anthology, compiled to celebrate the magazine’s benchmark anniversary.

The internationally acclaimed fashion photographer, Steven Meisel, originally shot the 32-page story inspired by the paintings of Jack Vettriano for the August 2004 issue of Vogue Italia. Entitled ‘Pulp: His Kind of Woman’ , styled by Edward Enninful and produced by Eric Hoffman, Meisel’s fashion story was credited as being based on the paintings of Jack Vettriano and explores the film noir themes for which Jack has become famous.

Some of the photographs are direct interpretations of individual paintings, whilst others are more in homage to the style and atmoshpere of Vettriano’s work.

Vettriano Retrospective dates announced

KELVINGROVE ART GALLERY & MUSEUM TO HOST JACK VETTRIANO RETROSPECTIVE

Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum

21st September 2013 – 23rd February 2014

Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum is staging the most comprehensive exhibition ever devoted to Scottish artist, Jack Vettriano. This is the first major Vettriano retrospective, bringing together more than 100 of the artist’s paintings, including his most definitive and best-loved works, for the first time from private collections around the world.

This retrospective exhibition showcases such key paintings as Dance me to the end of Love (1998), Mad Dogs (1992), Long Time Gone (2006), Bluebird at Bonneville (1996) and The Billy Boys (1994). Alongside these classic, romantically themed paintings for which Vettriano is perhaps best known, this exhibition will also feature extensive examples of his powerfully erotic works such as Game On (1999), The Parlour of Temptation (1996), An Imperfect Past (2000), Fetish (1998 ) and Night Geometry (1996). All the paintings featured in this exhibition are on loan from private collections and many are going on public display for the first time in close to 20 years.

Jack Vettriano said: “I was deeply touched when approached by Kelvingrove Art Gallery about staging a Retrospective exhibition for me, having long since been an admirer of their collections and overall ethos. Exhibiting in such majestic surroundings is a great honour and one for which I am extremely grateful. I look forward to spending some time in Glasgow and renewing my acquaintance with some of my favourite paintings in Kelvingrove’s Collection – works by the likes of Van Gogh and the Scottish Colourists that, in many ways, inspired me to become an artist at the outset.

It will not be without some considerable emotion that I will also be reunited with some of my own paintings; works that span 20 years of my career and many of which I have not seen in years. I’ve been very lucky that my works have found their way into a diverse range of private collections around the world over the years and I am most grateful to the owners for so kindly loaning their paintings back for this special exhibition.”

Jack Vettriano at Boisdale of Canary Wharf

Canary Wharf’s most majestic venue to host The Vettriano Collection, an exhibition of limited edition prints by Jack Vettriano.

Organised in association with Heartbreak Publishing, the exhibition comprises a specially curated collection of signed, limited edition prints by Jack Vettriano on display in the Fleming Gallery Room until Friday 21st December 2012. Admission is free of charge.

Jack Vettriano’s association with the Boisdale group began in 2010 when he was named Great Scot of the Year, and the award presented to him by the inaugural year’s winner, Sir Jackie Stewart.  Last year’s opening of the 15,000 square foot Boisdale of Canary Wharf has continued the association with the opening of ‘The Jack Vettriano Room’, a private dining room where original paintings hang alongside a specially created series of limited edition prints.

Speaking about the Boisdale, Jack has said, “Until I was nominated for the Johnnie Walker Great Scot of the Year Award in 2010, I was embarrassingly unaware of the Boisdale Club in Belgravia.  It was wonderful to discover such a strong Scottish presence only five minutes’ from my home and the night of the Award is one of the most memorable and enjoyable I’ve had in years.

Without doubt, the most lasting reward of that evening, was meeting and since becoming friends with, Ranald Macdonald, who is, in all senses, at the heart of the Boisdale empire.  I was thrilled to hear about Ranald’s ambitious plans for a Boisdale in the City and was lucky enough to get a sneak preview before it opened.  It is quite simply fabulous and on a very grand scale but one made instantly welcoming by Ranald’s eye for detail and his personal touches. I was delighted to be asked to contribute a piece of artwork to hang there and very flattered to discover that two paintings and a collection of prints were to hang in a private dining room.”  Jack Vettriano

Vettriano fans booking a table at Boisdale Canary Wharf for lunch or dinner will be offered a complimentary glass of champagne.  Simply quote “Heartbreak” when booking.  Offer valid until 21st December 2012 and subject to availability.

Please note that access to both the Fleming Gallery Room and the Jack Vettriano Room may be limited when a Private Event is on.  Please check with the Boisdale ahead of your visit to avoid disappointment.  Tel: 020 7715 5818

The Singing Butler goes on public display

From Van Gogh To Vettriano
Aberdeen City Art Gallery
4th February – 14th April 2012

The Singing Butler goes on public display for the first time in twenty years as part of a stunning exhibition which opens at the Aberdeen City Art Gallery on Saturday 4th February 2012.

Entitled From Van Gogh to Vettriano, the exhibition features curated from Private Collections and includes works by modern masters including Van Gogh, Monet, Matisse and Lucien Freud and Scottish Colourists, Peploe and Fergusson.

Vettriano counts Vincent  Van Gogh as one of his artistic heroes, click HERE to view him discussing Van Gogh’s work.

Vettriano said: “When I first painted it, I never imagined that The Singing Butler would still be of interest to people more than 20 years later.

“For it to now reappear in an exhibition featuring work by such an illustrious group of artists, including some personal heroes of mine, is a fate I could never have predicted nor dared to wish for it. I feel both honoured and humbled to be placed in this peer group.

“I had the privilege of an early look at the exhibition yesterday and would urge people to visit it – there is the most gorgeous Peploe, which alone makes the trip worthwhile. A great idea, to encourage private collectors to share their treasured possessions with the public and I do hope lots of people go to see these paintings before they disappear back behind private doors once more.”
