The Singing Butler makes record price at Sotheby's

The Singing Butler makes record price at auction.

The most famous painting by Jack Vettriano smashed all expectations, by selling for £744,800 at auction.

The Singing Butler had been expected to fetch up to £200,000 at Sotheby’s spring sale but went on to make a record price for the work of any Scottish artist sold at auction.

The painting was originally featured in the 1992 exhibition, ‘God’s Children’, and sold at the time for £1,800. It was sold at Sotheby’s by its second owner and went to a private buyer, bidding by telephone.
